Format Text

What This is About

You will probably want to do some formatting of the text in the edit page text inputs that are multi-line, even if it's nothing more than creating line and paragraph breaks. I provide a text editor for those inputs that has a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) mode with a visual interface similar to that of a word processing program. WYSIWYG mode takes care of the HTML tags used to format text in web pages that you are most likely to need, so you probably won't have to learn anything about HTML. You can try the text editor out in the demo at the bottom of the page.

The text editor also has an HTML mode in which you can see the HTML tags, and directly input or edit them if need be. I can walk you though how to do that for whatever it is that you want to do.

WYSIWYG mode relies on capabilities built into browsers, and as a result it works better in some browsers than in others. I recommend that my websites' owners use Firefox when they edit text in WYSIWYG mode. For purposes of the demo, however, you should be able to get a feel for how the WYSIWYG editor works no matter what browser you are using, though some WYSIWYG buttons may be disabled because they do not work in your browser at all, and some others may not work as well as they should.

I will soon be writing a guide to using the text editor. There will be a link to it here, partly in case my potential clients want to see it, but primarily so that my existing clients will be able access it at any time, and won't need to keep track of a printed copy and/or a corresponding file.

Try It Out!

Candidate statements of three fictitious political candidates are shown below. I used many of the buttons in WYSIWYG mode when I created them. Now it's your turn! Click on the Edit My Text button below them to use the editor to make the third statement your own.

Thomas "Slippery Tom" Wilson

I would make a great treasurer, so please vote for me!
  • I am currently the chief executive of your local bank, where I have done a great job
    of defrauding the shareholders
  • I have also served time for my job as the chief financial officer of Lehman Brothers.

If you vote for me, I will increase services, cut taxes, and balance the budget1!

1. Offer not valid in jurisdictions with thinking voters.

Stephanie "Boom Boom" Jones

Here are some reasons that you should vote for me!
  1. I have a great nickname.
  2. I have learned a lot about politics and explosives from my uncle, Ted Kaczynski.
  3. I know where you live!

Marvelous Me

I would make a great treasurer because I am honest, knowledgeable, capable, and work well with others. Both of my opponents lack at least one of these qualities.
